An Australian resident for tax purposesSelect this if you live in Australia and meet the ATO rules for tax residency. You can be an Australian resident for tax purposes even if you are not a citizen, not a permanent resident, born overseas, or on a temporary visa.

A foreign resident for tax purposesOnly select this if you are NOT an Australian resident under the ATO's tax residency rules. It does not simply mean "I'm from another country". Foreign residents do not receive the tax-free threshold.

A working holiday makerSelect this if you are in Australia on a working holiday visa (e.g. subclass 417 or 462). Separate tax rules apply.

The tax-free threshold is the amount an Australian resident can earn before paying income tax (usually the first $18,200 of income for a full-year Australian resident). You can only claim it from one employer at a time.
